"Uknown Treasure" Marlene Dietrich Turban

Description

Yellow-green linen turban featuring gathered rouching throughout its open-top design. The front (obverse) center is accented with a short cluster of rouched ruffles, adding texture and a sculptural element to the silhouette. The turban is constructed with expert craftsmanship, typical of mid-century studio wardrobe pieces.

Inside the turban is a label from Western Costume Co., one of Hollywood’s most prominent and historic costume houses. The label bears red handwritten text that reads:
“GARDNER” – likely referring to a performer or character name, possibly the famed actress Ava Gardner, although this has not been confirmed.  While the specific production is currently unknown, the Western Costume label and inscription suggest it was designed for professional use on screen or stage.

Originally acquired from Sotheby's Beverly Hills Entertainment Memorabilia sale on May 21, 1997.  This item was part of Lot 377.

Mannequin not included.

Includes Planet Hollywood Certificate of Authenticity.
